ADHD natural remedy – Herbal remedy for ADHD – ADHD natural treatment
Over the years many attempts have been made to find natural therapies for ADHD in order to avoid the use of stimulants such as Ritalin. Very little research has been done in this area since the medical profession has focused their attention almost exclusively on the use of stimulant drugs. It does seem probable that some nutrients or herbal remedies could eventually be found to be helpful. Some herbal remedies used in ADHD include ginkgo biloba and St. John’s wort. Here’s a research abstract on ADHD herbal remedy.
Effect of the herbal extract combination Panax quinquefolium and Ginkgo biloba on attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder: a pilot study.
J Psychiatry Neurosci. 2001 May;26(3):221-8. Oceanside Functional Medicine Research Institute, Nanaimo, BC.
A combination herbal product containing American ginseng extract, Panax quinquefolium, (200 mg) and Ginkgo biloba extract (50 mg) (AD-FX; CV Technologies, Edmonton, Alta.) was tested for its ability to improve the symptoms of ADHD. AD-FX capsules were taken twice a day on an empty stomach for 4 weeks. Patients were instructed not to change any other medications during the study. After 2 weeks of the ADHD herbal remedy treatment, the proportion of the subjects exhibiting improvement ranged from 31% for the anxious-shy attribute to 67% for the psychosomatic attribute. After 4 weeks of treatment, the proportion of subjects exhibiting improvement ranged from 44% for the social problems attribute to 74% for the Conners’ ADHD index and the DSM-IV hyperactive-impulsive attribute. Five (14%) of 36 subjects reported adverse events, only 2 of which were considered related to the study medication. These preliminary results suggest AD-FX treatment may improve symptoms of ADHD and should encourage further research on the use of ginseng and Ginkgo biloba extracts to treat ADHD symptoms.
Comments: It may be preferable at first to just try one herb for a few weeks before adding another one. The combination of herbal remedy with pharmaceutical medication may be unpredictable. We suggest using the herbal remedy by itself, not in combination with ADHD drugs.

no everyone else is …
no everyone else is crazy but me BLAAAAAHHHH its all about aliens and them trying to drug us into pharmas BLAAAHHHHH ithe only way to fix adhd is enemas and vitamins and fruits
I’d have that …
I’d have that schizophrenia looked at if I were you. Those voices in your head are lying.
but you are wrong …
but you are wrong because its all about big money in pockets of the jews and big business and big pharma and big government and the big man trying to keep the brother man down. its all a conspiracy. and the only thing good for adhd is HERBS and shooting water up the anus
May be every child …
May be every child can’t be help the same way. On my life, I can tell you after taking the medication’s for a while I was a sad person. A child will not alway’s tell you that. Sometimes they may not know how.
have been on …
have been on focalin, vyvanse, and other med. that worked at the beginning then after a while I would get emotional, moody, and depressed later with my family. I’m a cheerful person.I noticed the difference when I decided not to take the pill’s. I felt happier again. I’m getting my friends back.lol..Ihave been trying to eat different and use more natural things such as fish oil. I’m more focused and i do fill alot and happier. I never want to feel that way again.
Ritalin? My word, …
Ritalin? My word, but you’re behind the times. The latest ADHD treatment on the market these days is Vyvance, an abuse-resistant version of Adderol. They took Adderol’s active ingredient and joined it to a lysine, making it inert until digested. Catch up, man.

there is no cure …
there is no cure for something like adhd which is a brain wiring problem. there never will be unless they can physically alter the brain like going in and using robots to switch wiring connections in the brain. anyone who claims of a cure to adhd is a quack and they need to be prosecuted by the courts. spewing things like “natural cure” only gives people false hope and it keeps them away from actual treatment
I’m sorry, but how …
I’m sorry, but how is asking for academically credible research delusional or hopeless?
You DO know that answering a question with character assassination is a sure sign of a weak argument, right?
to switch from …
to switch from medication to natural methods could mean the difference between success and failure for the kid. a child’s grades arent the only thing that medication helps. his/her social life can be drastically diminished if the parent stops the medication in favor of natural methods
adhd medication may …
adhd medication may be the best treatment for ADHD, but I disagree with you that natural treatments shouldn’t be considered. The Japanese are having considerable success with L-Theanine, a selective glutamate antagonist. Natural treatment also has less side effects. I think that people should at least try a natural supplement to treat their adhd before turning to the drugs, as the drugs have side effects. I take adderall and so far it isnt effective, but I know it does wonders for certain people
there is no ” …
there is no “natural” or “herbal” cure in the world for anything besides malnutrition. sorry but there are no free lunches in biology. adhd medication is a great way to allow your child to stay in the real world. i have adhd at 23 and even with the medication i still have trouble keeping friends and girlfriends. you are doing your child a great disservice if you are against the idea of medication and are in favor of natural stuff

When did we start taking medical advice from a bible thumping, jesus freek? He should shut the up and keep begging for money – the only thing he does well!!
As far as having …
As far as having any effect on ADHD symptomology is concerned, yes, I do believe what I wrote. Please don’t generalize what I was saying about a specific condition, it’s nonsensical.
Again, I’m looking for citable, peer-reviewed research that gives credible evidence to any type of nutrition-oriented treatment of ADHD, IF there’s any to be found – which I doubt.
Do you honestly …
Do you honestly believe what you wrote? “All my profs tell me that the nutrition angle is bogus…” I guess eating fast food has no bearing on a person’s weight or health too? You are in Grad School? Scary!

What doctors? What …
What doctors? What scientists? All I saw regarding L-Theanine’s efficacy with treating ADHD on that site were average Joes & Janes spouting off with no references aside from this video. Not exactly the sort of stuff to fill one with confidence. Now if you have a link that contains any legitimate, citable, peer-reviewed research, I’ll gladly look at it, but please don’t pretend that encognitive contains anything credible on the subject. It doesn’t.
That’s your opinion …
That’s your opinion and I respect it. But I think I’ll believe the opinions of the doctors and scientists on the site over yours.
Thank-you for your opinion.
THIS is your …
THIS is your reference point, a site that reads like the National Enquiror for anti-establishment pseudo medicine? After the first 4 pages of stories that are either old news, undergoing challenge, completely debunked by other research, or out-and-out fabrication.
The good news: I didn’t see anything actually harmful.
The bad news: NOTHING credible or explanatory on L-Theanine as applied to ADHD. That site is an absolute joke from an academic standpoint.
